The ARS was recently established, from a meeting called in November 2004, with the objective of providing in the Institute a central point for the sixty-plus registered students engaged in research for M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees - earlier there being no such focus where students could share research experiences, knowledge and information. It will work in Sinhala and English – intending to provide a ‘bridge’ between those working in these languages – and will organise lectures and seminars by visiting scholars, by local staff and by other students, on subjects relevant to their needs. It will advise the management of the Institute of requirements related to research as well as provide a physical meeting place to facilitate communication.
All research-registered students are most welcome to join and participate. The affairs of the ARS are managed by a small elected Committee. Russell Bowden is Chairman, Priyanka Baddevithana, Vice-Chairman, the Honorary Secretary’s post is currently vacant, the Editor is Rev. Pandita and the Programme Coordinator is Rev. Ding Hui.
Communication with the ARS can be through russell@slt.lk.
